My Sisters Hands

(  180cm x 120cm, 2025 ) A contemporary figurative acrylic painting that looks at sisterhood, care, and cultural memory through something small but deeply familiar, the simple act of braiding hair. The scene is built around hands in motion, a quiet focus that speaks to trust, closeness, and the private routines women pass between one another without needing to explain them. From my own view as a woman of colour and a sister, it’s a moment I know well, hair care turning into a place where talk happens easily, where jokes land, and where you can be held up when you need it.

Instead of aiming for realism, the painting shifts away from traditional figure work with stylised bodies, a flattened sense of space, and bold, symbolic colour choices. What matters most here is the story inside the gesture, the way identity sits in ordinary moments, and the feeling that lingers after. An everyday act becomes a marker of heritage, and a clear nod to feminine solidarity.
